I discovered Gixen years ago when another service I was using raised their rates significantly. It was just luck that led me to Gixen but it's been nothing but a positive experience. I've never had any problems with Gixen and there is an option of using their free platform or their very reasonably priced service with a low annual fee. Gixen is cloud-based and you don't have to download anything. My defender services have never blocked me from going to Gixen, and I have been there hundreds of times. Helpful (3) Kimberly S. Auction sniping is the practice, in a timed online auction, of placing a higher bid than the current highest public bid at the last possible moment (often seconds before the end of the auction), giving the other bidders no time to outbid the sniper. This can be done manually, or by software.Sniping is legal and allowed, whether you like it or not.
If you don't use this technique manually or with a service/program, it will be used against you. SeeNot using it means you will pay more for more items in the long run, which is only to the advantage of eBay and sellers. Obviously eBay could get around this by adding time to the auction if there was a late bid, but they have not done so.Unfortunately I have to be at work and can't sit and time a last minute bid very often, which is why I'm looking into this. Thank you for your help. I use the free service.
I'm not a power user, but it does the job and I've never missed a bid. Regarding secuity, from the FAQ:Is it safe to just give away my eBay credentials?Yes. Gixen.com is using SSL both to transmit your password from your browser, and to authenticate it with eBay. Furthermore, your eBay password is not kept for long after auction ends - after your bids are submitted to eBay, your password is deleted within 48 hours to minimize the risk of it being compromised in the future. This also means that you have only 2 days after auction ends to view status of your bid on gixen.com.
If you choose to do so, you can delete your bids even before that. There's still a risk involved, but I'm OK with it. 'Not using it means you will pay more for more items in the long run, which is only to the advantage of eBay and sellers. Obviously eBay could get around this by adding time to the auction if there was a late bid, but they have not done so.' Sniping has never and will never 'beat me'. I don't look for auctions 'ending soonest'.
I look for auctions 'newly listed' for about 5 of my different default searches every day. I place bids to the maximum that I would like to pay for that item, and let eBay's proxy bidding work its magic for me. 1-3-5-7 or 10 days later, I will win the item, or I will not win the item. I will never go back and raise my bid based on emotion. I don't overpay and I don't get beat by snipers.
I never quite understood why people think it works, but then I realize there are many illogical eBayer's out there who overbid so I guess it may sometimes. Your early bid is an important information for other bidders. This specially applies to rare items, value of which is directly determined by interest. Other bidders may realize true value of an item only after you submit your bid. By bidding early, you are helping them, and that's against your own interest.Bidders tend to be overly optimistic, and therefore enter value lower than what they are really ready to pay. Leave them time to bid again after being outbid, and you will end up paying more, or lose the item you are bidding on.Bidders get excited during auctions, and are often ready to bid way more than what is rational.Ever been victim of shill bidding? It's a fraudulent practice used by some sellers to inflate the price of an item by using another eBay ID to bid on their own item (and retracting bid if they go too far.
Be especially careful if bidders' IDs are kept private). If you use sniping, fraudulent sellers have no time to conduct shill bidding. You can change your mind at any time before auction ends by deleting your scheduled snipe. This is much easier than retracting a bid on eBay.None of the above points are valid if you yourself sit there and wait until the last few seconds, but well, I have a job. Explain please because I don't see it. I am bidding on a lot that I figure I will re-sell for $200 net after fees and expenses. I figure that my time that it takes will be worth $100. I bid $101.11 or so, and let the proxy take it from there.
If I am beaten, I will have been so due to someone else either wanting the item more for themselves, or due to the fact that they were willing to make less. If I bid $101.11 right after being listed, or right 1 second before the end it doesn't make a difference. A 'snipe' of $101.10 will lose to me and a 'snipe' of $101.12 will beat me. As a matter of fact, I will actually win at $101.11 because mine was in first. What is a situation that I lose in?.
I've used esnipe.com for over a decade. I've never had a problem. The few times it didn't work for me were because of operator error (me), or normal bidding issues. For example, by the time my snipe was set to go, the bidding had surpassed my amount, or, twice, my snipe wasn't a full increment over the current high bid. In both cases, the snipes were rejected.Always make sure you're bidding your true max, and then if you win, great.

And if you don't, it's because it was more than you wanted to spend. No regrets.eta: Just for comparison purposes, your entire history is archived on esnipe, so you can review your bids at any time. I haven't used it in a while, but my $4 balance is still there. Security was never an issue, anymore than any other site I use. And I probably had the best customer service experience with one of their reps.
